In light of our recent celebrations of Lauryn Hill‘s comeback to the music scene, I thought I’d share this rendition of “Ex-Factor” that I stumbled across lastnight.
During a live show in England back in 2007, John Legend put a masculine spin on L-Boogie’s heart-wrenching classic, accompanied solely by piano. Does he do the original justice?
Though John has had better vocal performances, the cover works because he still captures the emotion of the song while still making it his own. Even with the scratchy vocals and sporadic piano mess-ups, John’s artistry is present which is enough for me.
